Role Overview

The Engineer I, Field Outage Services is responsible for performing and supporting field service engineering activities in the installation, modification, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of steam and gas turbines, valves, and auxiliary systems. This role requires a strong foundation in engineering principles, the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and a commitment to safety and quality. The position involves frequent travel and extended work hours during outage maintenance periods.

Key Responsabilities

  • Perform standard field engineering tasks using established methods, principles, and procedures related to turbine outage maintenance.
  • Direct and assist in installation, repair, analysis, and operation of customer equipment, including steam turbines, gas turbines, generators, exciters, heat transfer systems, and auxiliaries.
  • Apply engineering knowledge to support management, product line engineers, and suppliers.
  • Travel extensively (approximately 70%) by land and/or air to customer sites.
  • Work extended hours during outages, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Assist technical and non-technical personnel on-site to determine company responsibilities and actions.
  • Learn and develop skills to assign work to other technical/professional personnel as needed.
  • Act as floor engineer for outage maintenance on both OEM and non-OEM turbine frames.
  • Interface with customer personnel and vendors on technical matters.
  • Interpret and apply drawings, field procedures, and technical documents for maintenance activities.
  • Prepare and maintain field service documentation, including status reports, timesheets, evaluations, and expense reports.
  • Gain proficiency in outage planning, vendor coordination, and documentation preparation.
  • Read and interpret schedules using Primavera or Microsoft Project.
  • Use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and learn Microsoft Project and SharePoint.
  • Maintain progress toward completing all FSE I requirements as defined by the company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or a combination of education and relevant experience totaling at least eight (8) years in power plant operations, gas/steam turbine maintenance, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts, practices, and procedures for turbine outage maintenance.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documents, contracts, and work scopes.
  • Ability to analyze problems, collect and interpret data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Experience using scheduling and project management tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interaction with all organizational levels and customers.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work extended hours as required.

This role requires regular standing, walking, bending, talking, and hearing; frequent lifting and moving of up to 25 pounds; and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Work may involve exposure to loud environments, chemicals, and varying weather conditions. Hearing and fall protection, hard hats, safety glasses, and other PPE may be required.
