Role Overview
The Manager of Engineering Operations drives operational excellence across PGS Engineering through integrated project planning and scheduling, engineering systems management, process optimization, digital transformation, and business intelligence. The role ensures engineering teams have reliable systems, accurate data, effective processes, and clear execution priorities to meet business commitments.
Reporting to the Director of Engineering Operations & Configuration Management, this leader standardizes and optimizes engineering planning, forecasting, capacity management, and delivery coordination for outage planning, upgrade execution, Application Studies, New Product Development (NPD), and Service Engineering outage support. The role aligns engineering deliverables with Service Operations, Service Execution, Turbine Generator Repair, LTSA, Sales, Product Line Management, the Project Management Office (PMO), IT, Supply Chain, and other business partners.
The Manager owns Engineering planning and scheduling, resource forecasting, operational analytics, workflow automation, and continuous improvement initiatives that support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning, Scheduling, and Execution
- Collaborate across PGS business functions to integrate engineering planning and scheduling into broader project management and execution processes.
- Partner with the PMO to strengthen and standardize project initiation, budget planning and forecasting, schedule adherence, project reporting, and stakeholder communications.
- Work with engineering and production-system leaders to communicate priorities and proactively identify, escalate, and resolve internal and external constraints.
- Lead capacity planning, workload forecasting, resource optimization, and alignment of engineering schedules with project deliverable need dates.
- Develop and maintain engineering resource forecasting models to support workforce planning, hiring decisions, contractor utilization, and execution readiness.
- Lead the development and standardization of engineering planning, scheduling, and task-network methodologies supporting outage, upgrade, Application Studies, NPD, and service execution activities.
- Conduct impact analyses for emergent work and communicate feasibility, tradeoffs, schedule impacts, and risks to existing business commitments.
- Establish a recurring project review cadence that strengthens accountability, consistency, risk visibility, and timely decision-making across programs and projects.
Engineering Systems, Integration, and Digital Transformation
- Lead the engineering business systems strategy, administration, reliability, access governance, upgrade roadmap, and continuous improvement plan for Primavera P6, Windchill PLM, CAD applications, Power Platform solutions, Power BI reporting solutions, and other engineering systems.
- Lead integration across PLM, ERP, CRM, project management, and engineering support systems to enable connected information, efficient workflows, and reliable execution.
- Support digital engineering, workflow automation, artificial intelligence opportunities, and process modernization initiatives that improve productivity, reduce manual effort, and strengthen data quality.
- Partner with Engineering, Service, Sales, Supply Chain, Product Management, the PMO, and IT to optimize end-to-end processes, data flows, and system capabilities supporting engineering execution.
- Ensure appropriate system support, issue prioritization, user readiness, documentation, and adoption for engineering applications and process changes.
Analytics, KPIs, and Continuous Improvement
- Own the Engineering Operations analytics strategy, including KPI governance, executive dashboards, forecasting models, workload analytics, resource-planning metrics, and operational performance reporting.
- Establish ownership and drive performance improvement for Engineering On-Time Delivery, First-Time Quality, productivity, workload, cycle time, quality, and resource utilization metrics.
- Provide leadership with timely, accurate, and actionable data-driven insights to support prioritization, resource decisions, and risk mitigation.
- Identify and eliminate process gaps, standardize best practices, and lead coordinated improvement efforts across engineering tools, software, data, and workflows.
Team Leadership and Capability Development
- Lead, coach, and develop Engineering Operations team members while setting clear priorities, expectations, and accountability.
- Lead role-based training, qualification, and certification activities for Engineering Operations team members and system users, as appropriate.
- Provide mentorship and development coaching, support the creation and completion of Individual Development Plans (IDPs), and reinforce Mitsubishi Power Americas Core Values.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and ensure team members receive relevant company, project, safety, policy, and performance information.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (BS) in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, Operations Management, or a related technical discipline from four-year college or university; plus 8 to10 years of progressively responsible experience and prior leadership experience; or 15 years of equivalent related experience.
- PMP or PMI-SP certification from the Project Management Institute, or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification, is preferred but not required. Experience with project planning, scheduling, forecasting, and engineering operations.
- Knowledge of Primavera P6, Windchill PLM, CAD, Power BI, Power Platform, and analytics tools.
- Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.
- Ability to travel less than 5%.
