Mitsubishi Power, Inc. in Orlando, FL is looking for a Gas Turbine Performance Engineer I.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Evaluate thermal performance of gas turbines power output, heat rate, stage pressures, temperatures, and component efficiencies] utilizing thermodynamic, aerodynamic, and fluid mechanics engineering principles demonstrated through hand and computer calculations.
  • Support the evaluation of performance utilizing Remote Monitoring Center (RMC) data to provide Mitsubishi Power and its customers with qualitative performance and availability analyses with recommendations that will improve the thermal performance or availability and reliability of the monitored gas turbine fleet.
  • Perform computer analysis of operating data to determine the causes of gas turbine performance losses through diagnostic analysis of operational data for both steady-state and transient operation, along with physical inspection results of engine components.  This work includes:
  • Gross performance characterization of major power plant components (GT, ST, HRSG, Condenser).
  • Detailed analysis of GT performance (compressor & turbine) to be able to identify stage and subcomponent performance losses, and where necessary, utilize Mitsubishi Power proprietary or industry software.
  • Prepare thermal performance testing procedures to demonstrate compliance with contractual performance guarantees which follow the requirements of ASME PTC-22 or ISO 2314 including uncertainty analysis under the guidance of a more senior performance engineer. This includes calculation of GT performance and preparation of performance correction curves.
  • Participate in field performance testing, collecting performance data, evaluating data against stability criteria, performing corrections of test data to the reference conditions, and preparation of performance test report.
  • Support combustion system applications / fuel utilization studies to estimate combustion system and emission control capabilities, including emission control estimates, fuel nozzle pressure losses, and operational troubleshooting. Participate in emission tests for combustion system validation and post outage tuning. Where possible, making recommendations for emission control or operability improvements and work to obtain approval for those recommendations.
  • Participate in the service and design of fluid systems including the interpretation and creation of Piping and Instrumentation Drawings [P&ID], system descriptions, component specifications and design review documents for gas turbine service-related initiatives, considering specific operating characteristics of fluid system components (filters, valves, pumps, compressors, nozzles, etc.) for compressible and incompressible fluids.
  • Interface with other technical and non-technical personnel, within Mitsubishi Power or external to the company, communicating at a technical level that can be understood by the person that is the receiving the information.  Communications will include oral and written forms and can be for individuals, groups, or large industry forums.
  • Availability for work after normal working hours, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Perform other such duties as may be required.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION  

 

      • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering with an emphasis on thermal fluids from an accredited college or university. Preferable to have existing knowledge of gas turbine engineering including overall turbine configuration, gas turbine design, boundary conditions, temperatures.
      • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as industry reports and technical journals. Ability to write technical reports and correspondence including customer reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
      • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform necessary calculations to satisfy job requirements.
      • Reasoning Ability: Ability to make judgment decisions based on specifications or technical requirements.
      • Computer Skills: Experience with software including computer programming (Python, C++, Fortran, VBA, etc.), gas turbine thermal modeling (NPSS, etc.), and advanced personal computer skills including Microsoft Office, etc.
