SUMMARY

Lead Operations Engineers report directly to the Sr. Manager of the TOMONI HUB, within the Fleet Reliability & Monitoring division. The TOMONI HUB is the Mitsubishi Power Analytics and Performance Center which is responsible for 24/7 monitoring & diagnostics of its monitored fleet of power generating equipment. The duties for this role include leading a team of engineers responsible for providing technical assistance pertaining to the performance, operation, and maintenance of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, balance of plant, and auxiliary systems. Other expectations include the support of resource planning, training and certification, interdepartmental collaboration, and strategic development to enhance monitoring service offerings. 

 

The TOMONI HUB is a 247-365 function unit including but not limited to holidays, weekends, weather, pandemics, etc. Support of the TOMONI HUB team may be required beyond standard business hours to assist in an escalation capacity to ensure continuous coverage of the monitored fleet.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the daily routine of the TOMONI HUB engineering team. Ensure timely response to customer issues and support customer discussions. This will sometimes require unplanned internal/external meetings during off-business hours
  • Work cross-functionally when escalation is required and lead discussions to an action plan
  • Lead with a continuous improvement mindset with a focus on improving power plant availability and reliability
  • Identify, direct and implement new strategies to enhance the operation, capabilities and function of the TOMONI HUB Analytics & Performance Center 
  • Interpretation of technical drawings, procedures, control logic and other relevant engineering documentation to resolve operational / reliability issues
  • Provide technical training & follow certification plan with all engineering team members
  • Work with existing workflow processes to ensure efficient use of resources and propose revisions and upgrades as the group grows in size and technical depth
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership on ONE TEAM approach to promote positive culture and working atmosphere built on technical foundation of certification and task management
  • Drive people development growth built on behavioral foundation of individual development plans, succession planning, and leadership development
  • Ability to properly facilitate meetings including recording meeting minutes, keeping the meeting on topic and defining clear tangible action items that are followed up on in a timely manner
  • Support annual budget planning for equipment, tools, staff, training and report updates to management
  • Overnight travel (approximately 25% or more) by land and/or air. 
  • Perform other such duties as may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (BS) in Engineering from a four-year college or university and at least six (6) years related experience and/or technical training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Management Skills: Candidate shall have management and / or team leadership experience and demonstrated excellence in operations leadership.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as industry reports and technical journals. Ability to write technical reports and correspondence including customer reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. 
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry, or thermal system design and modeling as applicable.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of database, project management, spreadsheet and word processing software; electronic mail; graphics; technical diagrams; flow charts, etc.
