Role Overview
The Field Service Machinist I is responsible for setting up and operating CNC, manual, and portable field machining equipment to support the maintenance and repair of Steam and Gas Turbine components. This role requires the ability to interpret technical documentation, perform precise measurements, and follow established machining procedures. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and comfortable working independently in both shop and field environments. Extensive travel is required, including to secure or regulated sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
- Set up and operate CNC, manual, and portable field machining tools including lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and grinders.
- Interpret blueprints, planning sheets, and technical sketches to determine machining sequences and specifications.
- Calculate and adjust machine settings including speed, feed, spindle position, and coolant flow.
- Monitor equipment operation, identify malfunctions, and make necessary adjustments.
- Use precision measuring tools to inspect finished work for accuracy and conformance.
- Perform dimensional inspections and document findings as needed.
- Clean, maintain, and conduct preventative maintenance on machines and tooling.
- Complete required documentation and follow safety and quality protocols.
- Maintain eligibility to access highly regulated sites such as nuclear facilities.
- Travel up to 70%, including overnight and international assignments, is required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of machining experience preferred; experience with CNC and portable field machining strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and written instructions.
- Proficiency in basic mathematical and measurement skills applicable to machining.
- Working knowledge of computers and common software tools (email, word processing, spreadsheets).
- Valid driver’s license and passport required.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in team environments.

Physical & Safety Requirements
At Mitsubishi Power Americas, safety is our top priority and a shared responsibility. All employees are expected to uphold high Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) standards and follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE.
This role requires regular standing, walking, bending, and lifting of up to 25 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Hearing protection may be required in designated areas. The employee must comply with Mitsubishi Power and customer safety procedures and is expected to support 24/7 service operations, which may include working non-standard hours or on short notice.
