Role Overview
- The Manufacturing Engineer, CAD & Tool Design II is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of CAD drawings, 3D models, tooling, fixtures, gauges, lifting devices, repair aids, and related manufacturing support equipment.
- Creates, revises, and maintains engineering drawings and models from engineering concepts, sketches, specifications, and existing documentation using SolidWorks and associated design systems.
- Supports manufacturing, repair, and continuous improvement initiatives through practical engineering solutions while maintaining document and revision control.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, revise, and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks and related CAD software.
- Design tooling, fixtures, gauges, lifting devices, repair aids, and manufacturing support equipment for production and repair operations.
- Develop fabrication, machining, assembly, and installation drawing packages.
- Perform fit-up, clearance, tolerance, and interference analysis on assemblies and tooling designs.
- Generate and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs), engineering documentation, and revision-controlled drawings.
- Work from sketches, concepts, specifications, and existing drawings to create engineering models and technical documentation.
- Apply ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and engineering drawing standards.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality, Maintenance, and EHS to resolve design and tooling issues.
- Support facility layouts, equipment arrangements, capital projects, installations, and workflow improvements.
- Maintain CAD standards, templates, engineering records, tool lists, and document control requirements.
- Support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Lean Manufacturing, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures and report unsafe activities to Management and/or Human Resources.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals and contribute to a positive team spirit through effective communication with colleagues and management at all levels.
- Protect confidential information and maintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Five or more years of experience in CAD design, tooling design, manufacturing engineering, or a related industrial environment preferred.
- Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks and Microsoft Office applications.
- Working knowledge of SOLIDWORKS PDM, PLM, or engineering document management systems preferred.
- Strong understanding of ASME Y14.5 GD&T, tooling and fixture design, manufacturing processes, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), BOMs, and revision-controlled documentation.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, work instructions, and procedure manuals, present technical information, and respond to questions from managers, customers, vendors, and employees.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations involving geometry, trigonometry, tolerancing, and dimensional analysis.
- Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, evaluate alternatives, and implement practical engineering solutions in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, talk, or hear and frequently work in office and manufacturing environments.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work around moving mechanical parts, manufacturing operations, and elevated noise levels and use required hearing protection and other personal protective equipment in designated areas.
