Role Overview
The Material Planning Specialist is responsible for managing and balancing material inventory to support highly variable customer demand. This role works closely with Program Managers, Buyers, Order Fulfillment, and Outage Support teams to proactively communicate material needs, ensure delivery commitments, and support execution of project and operational requirements.
The position focuses on resolving complex supply and planning issues, optimizing material availability, and driving process improvements. In addition, the specialist supports inventory optimization initiatives—including safety stock levels, economic order quantities (EOQ), and cost‑reduction efforts—in collaboration with the sourcing team to improve overall supply chain performance and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
- Ensure on‑time delivery and fill rate targets, coordinating with Sourcing and Order Fulfillment to meet customer demand and adjust schedules as needed.
- Collaborate with Sales, Customer Service, Production, and Quality teams to manage parts availability, inspections, and resolve quality issues (QNs).
- Manage MRP and inventory planning, including reviewing daily MRP outputs, reconciling cycle counts, and adjusting purchase requisitions and orders.
- Execute procurement activities by placing purchase orders and actively managing open and late POs to prevent shortages.
- Maintain ERP data integrity, including updating standard costs, lead times, and ensuring accuracy of inventory, receipts, and shipping data.
- Align production with demand forecasts, ensuring all production orders are free of part shortages.
- Support forecasting and inventory management, optimizing stock levels and minimizing shortages.
- Manage material lifecycle activities, including new part setup, and disposition of slow‑moving, obsolete, and non‑conforming inventory.
- Coordinate logistics activities, including stock transfers, outbound deliveries, and subcontractor‑supplied parts.
- Support continuous improvement and professional development, participating in training and process enhancements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Management, or a related field; or 5+ years of relevant experience in inventory control or a related environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5–10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with strong background in material planning, production control, and MRP processes.
- Hands-on experience with SAP required.
- Knowledge of import/export processes and Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) activities.
- Strong understanding of end‑to‑end supply chain operations, including receiving, storage, inventory control, kitting, assemblies, manufacturing, and distribution.
- Experience with inventory management best practices and ability to analyze and reconcile variances between physical and system inventory.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and financial skills, with the ability to interpret data and drive decision‑making.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- APICS certification or training preferred.
