SUMMARY

The Operations Engineering team reports directly to the Sr. Manager of the TOMONI HUB, within the Fleet Reliability & Monitoring division. The TOMONI HUB is Mitsubishi’s analytics and performance center which is responsible for 24/7 monitoring & diagnostics of Mitsubishi’s monitored fleet of power generating equipment. The duties of an Operations Engineer is to provide customers with technical assistance pertaining to the performance, operation, and maintenance of gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, balance of plant, and auxiliary systems. Other expectations include the support of strategic initiatives to enhance Mitsubishi Power’s monitoring service offerings.

The TOMONI HUB is a 24‑7-365 function unit including but not limited to holidays, weekends, weather, pandemics, etc. Support of the TOMONI HUB Operations team may be required beyond standard business hours to assist the operations team in an escalation capacity to ensure continuous coverage of the monitored fleet.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver prompt response, diagnosis, and communication of equipment operation issues during unexpected power plant operation events.
  • Investigate and diagnose active control system alarms and instrumentation anomalies.
  • Review real-time and historical operation data of power plant equipment and provide recommendations for improvement on all policies, procedures, operations, and technical issues related to customers’ gas turbines, steam turbines, and balance of plant equipment.
  • Interpret, apply, and develop technical drawings, control logic, procedures, and other relevant documentation to resolve power plant operational/reliability issues.
  • Provide technical recommendations, troubleshooting instructions, and dispositions directly to Mitsubishi Power customers to recover, improve, and maintain equipment reliability, maintainability and availability.
  • Determine escalation path of plant outage events to efficiently assist recovering all power plant equipment to service.
  • Document and escalate advanced operational non-conformances to the Service Engineering teams for extended evaluations, root cause analysis, and dispositions.
  • Adapt and utilize predictive models to enhance the condition based monitoring capability and predict potential operational issues.
  • Provide analysis of operations reports to Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) program managers and Mitsubishi Power customers as required.
  • Support the service organization by effectively documenting, tracking, and communicating fleet issues and operations status
  • Report out effectively at daily meetings or team turnovers by supplying 24-hr synopsis of the previous day’s fleet activity to inform the service organization of operational fleet issues. 
  • Adapt and implement new strategies and tools to enhance the remote monitoring capability and function of the TOMONI HUB.
  • Support total plant monitoring initiatives by contributing expertise on power plant configuration, plant operations, control system logic, data analysis software and data acquisition systems.
  • Business travel to a min of 10% air/or land based on projects needs.
  • Perform other such duties as may be required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (BA) in Engineering from a fouryear college or university; or at least seven (7) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of database software; project management software; spreadsheet software and word processing software; electronic mail; graphics; technical diagrams; flow charts, etc.
