SUMMARY

The Service Engineering RCA Champion is the internal and external focal point for engineering managed root cause analysis investigations (RCAs). The role may lead individual Root Cause Analysis (RCA) but will primarily act as the Champion for overseeing multiple RCAs. The Service Engineering RCA Champion will support the process alignment across all departments and teams, provide process training and guidance for new and ongoing RCAs. 

The Service Engineering RCA Champion is responsible for maintaining an overview of the team, RCA training, and monthly reporting status. The Service Engineering RCA Champion will also provide technical assistance within their field of expertise and identify technical specialist who can assist where necessary. The mission of the Service Engineering RCA Champion is to drive RCAs through the process in an expeditious manner while refraining from making assumptions and conclusions that influence the outcome of the investigation. Based on the business need this role may be required to provide support within the field of expertise of the candidate. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the training and coaching program for the RCA 8D Process and Investigation principals
  • Be the subject matter expert and point of contact for process support and conflict resolution on how to proceed.
  • Maintaining Four-Blocker Reporting status on a monthly basis, identifying roadblocks and improvement opportunities
  • Internal and External progress reporting to management and customers as necessary
  • Maintaining RCA tasking, action items and KPIs with support from the Engineering Operations team.
  • Providing technical support and guidance within own field of expertise.
  • Documentation and tasking review and approvals based on defined DOW/DOR
  • Participate in RCA core team meetings to provide technical and process guidance, identify and address roadblocks and constraints
  • Lead and review meetings (acting as the review chairman), ensure the required reviewers are invited and attend, ensure the review material is conforming to process requirements and submitted for review in advance of the meeting, notes are taken, and action items assigned, etc.
  • Drive a final review team recommendation (approved and continue, conditionally approved and continue, conditionally approved but hold until fully approved, not approved, etc..)
  • Escalate challenges as early as possible to provide better visibility to potential challenges and drive resolutions
  • Lead RCAs when required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

  • Preferably 8 years of work-related work experience in rotating equipment design / service or combined cycle powerplant operation and maintenance.
  • Root cause analysis experience.
  • Six Sigma experience preferred
  • Ability to lead others and drive tasks to completion.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering preferable (experience may be considered as an alternative).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
