Role Overview

The Quality Assurance Field Service Engineer is responsible for ensuring that field service activities, outage executions, repairs, inspections, and commissioning activities are performed in accordance with company quality standards, customer requirements, contractual obligations, and applicable industry codes and standards. This role serves as the quality representative in the field, driving defect prevention, process compliance, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement outage and site-specific Quality Plans.
  • Review and support Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), work instructions, and quality documentation.
  • Perform field audits and surveillance of maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Verify compliance with contractual requirements, engineering specifications, and customer expectations.
  • Ensure inspection records, turnover packages, and quality documentation are complete and accurate.
  • Facilitate Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) compliance and other quality-critical processes.
  • Identify nonconformances and manage NCR initiation, investigation, containment, and closure.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) activities.
  • Prepare Quality Post Outage Reports.
  • Monitor quality performance metrics and report trends to project and business leadership.
  • Support customer quality meetings, inspections, and witness points.
  • Drive lessons learned capture and implementation across projects and outages.
  • Mentor field personnel on quality requirements and best practices.
  • Comply with all EHS policies, practices and procedures reporting all unsafe activities to Management and/or Human Resources.
  • ISO 9001 experience.
  • Experience with gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, balance-of-plant equipment, or power generation services.
  • Knowledge of outage management, commissioning, and field quality processes

 

Requirement

  • Construction, Field Installation and/or Service, with Manufacturing/Industrial background: ability to understand quality systems, as established from industry codes and standards.  Must be able to interpret drawings for inspection purposes.  Must be able to use standard inspection equipment.
  • Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in a technical discipline (Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Quality Management,) from an accredited college or university; or at least five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Certifications as a Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Nondestructive Testing and/or Welding Inspection (AWS/CWI) are desirable.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write in English.  Spanish and/or Japanese a plus.  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Knowledge of database, SAP, project management, spreadsheet and word processing software, electronic mail, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc.
  • Business travel (up to 50%) by land and/or air and overnight both domestically and internationally.
