Role Overview
- Perform advanced quality inspection and technical evaluation activities for gas and steam turbine components using visual, dimensional, and nondestructive testing methods.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for inspection processes, quality systems, nondestructive testing methods, GD&T interpretation, dimensional analysis, inspection planning, and quality requirements.
- Lead complex inspections, provide technical guidance to Quality Inspectors I and II, support root cause investigations, and ensure products meet customer, engineering, regulatory, and company quality requirements.
- Exercise independent judgment, support continuous improvement initiatives, mentor personnel, and serve as a key resource for resolving quality-related issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all duties, responsibilities, and skills required of Quality Inspector I and Quality Inspector II.
- Perform advanced inspections and technical evaluations of gas and steam turbine components using visual, dimensional, and nondestructive testing methods.
- Independently evaluate complex nonconformances and develop disposition recommendations in collaboration with Engineering and Quality leadership.
- Review manufacturing documentation, engineering drawings, specifications, repair procedures, and work instructions for technical compliance.
- Lead first article inspections, validation inspections, and inspections involving special customer requirements.
- Provide technical support during root cause analysis, corrective action investigations, failure analysis, and containment activities.
- Analyze inspection data and quality trends to identify opportunities for process improvement and defect reduction.
- Perform advanced dimensional inspections utilizing CMM software, profilometers, hardness testing equipment, and other precision measurement systems.
- Verify calibration status and proper use of inspection equipment and tooling.
- Support internal, external, customer, ISO, and regulatory audits.
- Develop, review, and improve inspection procedures, work instructions, and quality documentation.
- Participate in qualification and certification activities for inspectors and technicians.
- Train, mentor, coach, and provide technical guidance to Quality Inspectors I and II.
- Support implementation of continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and productivity.
- Coordinate quality activities with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, suppliers, and customer representatives.
- Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to leadership and stakeholders.
- Consistently meet production, safety, and quality requirements and perform other duties that may be required.
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures and report unsafe activities to Management and/or Human Resources.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals, promote standardization of inspection methods and best practices, and communicate effectively with employees, management, customers, and suppliers.
- Protect confidential information and maintain the highest degree of honesty, integrity, accountability, and professionalism at all times.
Requirements
- Associate degree in a technical discipline and seven (7) years of related quality inspection experience; high school diploma or GED and ten (10) years of related inspection experience; or an equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of inspection principles, blueprint and specification interpretation, GD&T application, nonconformance management, corrective action systems, turbine component manufacturing or repair processes, and applicable customer requirements.
- Demonstrated competency in applicable nondestructive testing methods. ASNT Level II or Level III certification in one or more methods is preferred.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001, internal and customer quality requirements, auditing practices, root cause analysis, statistical process control, and continuous improvement methods.
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical instructions, procedures, correspondence, drawings, and specifications and to prepare technical reports and present information effectively.
- Ability to perform calculations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent; interpret charts and graphs; and apply practical geometry and dimensional analysis.
- Ability to define problems, collect and evaluate data, establish facts, identify root causes, and develop sound technical recommendations for varied or complex situations.
- Proficiency with electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, quality management systems, ERP/MRP systems, CMM software, and quality data analysis applications.
- Preferred qualifications include CMM programming experience; NDT certification in FPI, Eddy Current, Ultrasonic, Radiographic, or other applicable methods; Lean or Six Sigma training; and internal auditor certification.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, reach, talk, and hear; frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work around toxic or caustic chemicals, manufacturing equipment, and elevated noise levels and use required personal protective equipment in designated areas. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
