Role Overview
The Quality Inspector sets up and operates advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) equipment to evaluate materials and components. This role determines appropriate inspection methods, identifies defects, and ensures products meet internal and customer quality standards while supporting engineering analysis and continuous improvement efforts.
Key Responsibilities
• Inspect materials and products for defects such as cracks, porosity, incomplete welds, leaks, and internal flaws
• Perform and demonstrate proficiency in NDT methods including eddy current, ultrasonic, radiographic, FPI, visual, and thermographic testing
• Read and interpret drawings and specifications to verify dimensions and requirements
• Determine and apply the most effective inspection methods for each application
• Evaluate inspection results, make technical judgments, and provide recommendations
• Document inspection results and communicate findings to Engineering
• Support technical evaluations including component life assessments
• Provide technical and financial input related to process improvements
• Train and mentor new inspectors in accordance with ASNT standards
• Support ISO 9001 compliance efforts and participate in audits
• Ensure products meet or exceed company and customer quality requirements
• Follow all safety policies and report unsafe conditions
• Collaborate with team members to achieve departmental and organizational goals
• Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
• Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism
• Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
• Associate degree from a two-year college or technical school, or at least five (5) years of related experience/training, or equivalent combination
• Knowledge and hands-on experience with multiple NDT techniques (eddy current, ultrasonic, radiographic, FPI, etc.)
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and inspection criteria
• Basic computer skills including email, word processing, and spreadsheets
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats
• Basic math skills including arithmetic operations and interpreting measurements
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, and bending
• Commitment to safety practices and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
