  • Evaluate thermal performance of gas turbines [power output, heat rate, stage pressures, temperatures, and component efficiencies] utilizing thermodynamic, aerodynamic, and fluid mechanics engineering principles demonstrated through hand and computer calculations.
  • Lead enhancement of the performance analysis capabilities of the Remote Monitoring Center (RMC) to provide MPS and its customers with qualitative performance and availability analyses with recommendations that will improve the thermal performance or availability and reliability of the monitored gas turbine fleet.
  • Determine the causes of gas turbine performance losses through diagnostic analysis of operational data for both steady-state and transient operation, along with physical inspection results of engine components.  This work includes:
    • Gross performance characterization of major power plant components (GT, ST, HRSG, Condenser).
    • Detailed analysis of GT performance (compressor & turbine) to be able to identify stage and subcomponent performance losses, and where necessary, utilize Mitsubishi proprietary or industry software.
    • Develop thermal performance testing procedures to demonstrate compliance with contractual performance guarantees which follow the requirements of ASME PTC-22 or ISO 2314 including uncertainty analysis. This work will include participation in the performance test / data collection and analysis of test results for tests within the department roles and responsibilities.

If approved, then follow through with specifying instrumentation, supervising the installation and data collection, post processing analyses of the data and test report generation.
    • Work with repair, service, and field personnel to develop refurbishment criteria that enhances the potential for performance recovery and monitor the impacts of component durability enhancements. This will include monitoring of parts conditions returned for repair to identify increased clearance, surface roughness, erosion, etc. that can lead to performance losses.
    • Monitoring the condition of parts being returned to service and assembly clearance information to determine if the design clearances are appropriate.
    • Develop control system settings relating to gas turbine load and emission controls.
  • Lead and conduct combustion system applications / fuel utilization studies to estimate combustion system and emission control capabilities, including emission control estimates, fuel nozzle pressure losses, and operational troubleshooting. Participate in emission tests for combustion system validation and post outage tuning. Where possible, making recommendations for emission control or operability improvements and work to obtain approval for those recommendations.
  • Participate in the service and design of fluid systems including the interpretation and creation of Piping and Instrumentation Drawings [P&ID], system descriptions, component specifications and design review documents for gas turbine service-related initiatives, considering specific operating characteristics of fluid system components (filters, valves, pumps, compressors, nozzles, etc.) for compressible and incompressible fluids.
