Job Description: 

SUMMARY

Independently read and interpret blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences. This work is primarily focused on repairs to Steam and Gas Turbine components.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up, and operate CNC and Manual type shop machine tools, such as Lathes, Milling , Boring, Grinding,
  • Set up, and operate “portable” machine tools, such as Lathes, Milling , Boring, Grinding.
  • Calculate and set machine controls to position spindle in relationship to part and to regulate factors such as cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.
  • Operate machine and monitor displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions.
  • Understand required machining sequence and use precision measuring tools to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications.
  • Perform dimensional inspection of various products.
  • Clean machine, tooling, and parts and perform equipment PM as assigned.
  • Heavy overnight travel (at least 70%) by land, and /or air.
  • Be able to gain access to Nuclear Plants.
  • Perform other such duties as may be required.

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; or at least three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform necessary calculations to satisfy job requirements.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to make judgment decisions based on material specifications or technical requirements.
  • Computer Skills:  Personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, drawings, etc.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee’s working environment maybe loud.  The employee may be required to adhere to MHPSA and customer safety procedures including but not limited to, the use of personal protection equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, goggles, hearing and fall protection).
