Role Overview
The Senior Manager, Specialty Service Engineering is a working engineering leader responsible for providing technical direction, people leadership, and cross functional coordination for specialty service engineering activities across Mitsubishi Power Americas. This role supports Steam Turbines, Gas Turbines, Generators, and auxiliary equipment, with accountability for safety, quality, fleet reliability, and engineering excellence across PGS service engineering. The position balances hands on technical engineering evaluations with leadership of managers and individual contributors to support upgrades, continuous improvement, root cause and corrective actions, and long term fleet performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical, operational, and organizational leadership to service engineering managers and individual contributors.
- Lead specialty engineering services including metallurgical support, vibration analysis, technical training, upgrade design, manufacturing support, ESRs, NCRs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assume technical responsibility as Engineering Manager per SOP OPS 211 for assigned technical activities.
- Drive Root Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA) for part failures, non conformances, and operational issues across gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment, ensuring adherence to the 8D process.
- Collaborate across PGS, NGS, manufacturing, procurement, field service, and global engineering teams to improve fleet reliability, availability, maintainability, and cost performance.
- Interface with Mitsubishi Power Japan service engineering teams and global factories to support field dispositions, design changes, and rapid integration of engineering solutions.
- Lead tasking, certification, and technical training programs aligned to first time quality and on time delivery objectives.
- Publish and maintain fleet risk databases to support outage planning, parts planning, and financial planning.
- Support customer communications, incident reports, and technical bulletins where Mitsubishi Power holds product responsibility.
- Develop staffing strategies balancing internal growth and external specialized engineering support.
- Support ISO 9001 compliance efforts, industry meetings, and customer forums as required.
- Support off hour coordination with global teams and travel up to 20% as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Extensive experience in gas turbine and steam turbine engineering, including turbine configuration, design, boundary conditions, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience in technically complex, schedule driven engineering environments.
- Strong technical evaluation, problem solving, and decision making capability related to reliability, performance, risk, and cost.
- Advanced computer skills including FEA tools, SAP, Windchill, SharePoint, CRM, spreadsheets, and standard engineering software.
- Ability to develop technical reports, customer communications, and present effectively to technical and non technical audiences.
- Willingness and ability to travel and comply with all safety and PPE requirements.
