Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. in Orlando, FL is looking for a Steam Turbine Service Engineer II

 

  1. SUMMARY

Steam Turbine Service Engineers are responsible for engineering activities associated with steam turbine field service, assuring rapid disposition of non-conformance reports, and requests for information, evaluation of field issues including data collection and root cause analysis support of steam turbine issues.  The work encompasses Mitsubishi and non-OEM turbine service support.  The engineer will be required to work with the field service and long-term service groups to identify quality improvements and cost reductions to make MPW-A parts and services more competitive.  The Steam Turbine Service Engineer II is an intermediate engineering position that requires knowledge of engineering principles and experience in the application of principles.  In this role, the engineer will demonstrate the capability to perform normal work assignments without requiring detailed instruction and will be given some degree of technical authority in these work assignments.  The engineer will also be given technical assignments of increasing technical difficulty working under the supervision of more senior engineers or management.

 

 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

 

  • Utilize a basic understanding of steam turbine component design, auxiliary system design and turbine operation to support field service inspection and operational issue resolution, performing engineering tasks under the supervision of a more experienced engineer or engineering manager.
  • Interface with customers in office meetings and on site to effectively represent MPW-A by demonstrating technical expertise and customer sensitivity to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Utilize a basic understanding of steam turbine component design, auxiliary system design and turbine operation to troubleshoot service issues while applying MPW-A-approved practices and procedures.
  • Provide engineering input to support development of outage and installation procedures and schedules.
  • Develop service engineering procedures that support the continual technical development of the entire steam turbine organization.
  • Define and manage time effectively to provide timely responses based on outage and commissioning needs while also attending to personal technical growth opportunities.
  • Ensure fleet experience, operational feedback, and lessons learned are communicated back to design engineering to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Provide support, as needed, for emergency critical path activities outside of normal core hours (including weekends and holidays).
  • Utilize service support databases such as Non-Conformance Reports, Requests for Information, Engineering Support Request, and Field Service Reports to support the rapid disposition of field or operational issues.

      • Education and/or Experience: BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university; and course work in the major field being associated with turbomachinery.  A minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering design or service-related experience is required, or a minimum of 12 years directly related engineering work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement (some work credit may be given for MS or PhD degrees based on the relevancy of course and related project experience).  Knowledge of steam turbine engineering including overall turbine configuration, steam turbine configuration, and properties of materials commonly used in turbines, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
      • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as industry reports and technical journals. Ability to write technical reports and correspondence including customer reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to customers, clients, vendors, and other employees of the organization.
      • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform necessary calculations to satisfy job requirements.
      • Reasoning Ability: Ability to make judgment decisions based on specifications or technical requirements.
      • Computer Skills: Advanced personal computer skills including graphics (Pro/ENGINEER, AutoCAD), MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access), etc.
