Role Overview

The Technical Support Manager - Generator (TSM) provides technical, operational, and personnel leadership for the Generator Services business, supporting field and shop organizations while overseeing the development of Generator Engineers and associated technical resources. Responsible for coordinating and tracking Generator product line support needs, including outage forecasting, vendor repairs, parts manufacturing requirements, and the training and development of direct reports. The TSM drives business excellence by improving processes, work packages, personnel training, and ensuring all assigned KPIs are achieved. The TSM will be responsible for the financial results of the Generator repairs business through internal and external customer relationships and Mitsubishi Power Americas' associated business units.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead workforce planning and development activities including recruiting, onboarding, performance management, training, talent reviews, mobilization planning, and development of employees and contingent resources.
  • Lead the planning and execution of generator maintenance, repair, outage, and modernization activities for hydrogen-cooled, air-cooled, and water-cooled generators, including rewinds, stator and rotor repairs, while providing project oversight and technical leadership to field and engineering resources.
  • Lead forecasting and pre-outage planning activities by collaborating with customers, Service Operations, and internal stakeholders to identify future resource and support requirements.
  • Establish and maintain technical standards, procedures, quality controls, NCR resolution processes, and field audit programs supporting Generator Services execution.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with customers, vendors, and service partners to support business growth, forecasting, and successful project execution.
  • Provide financial oversight of Generator repair and service activities, including budget management, cost controls, profitability monitoring, estimate approvals, and business performance reporting.
  • Provide oversight and direction for the implementation of Field Service outage projects supporting Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSAs) and non-LTSA contracts.
  • Track and report project performance metrics to relevant leadership.
  • Travel as required (approximately 25% or more).

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience supporting large utility, industrial, or power generation generators through maintenance, repair, inspection, diagnostics, testing, or outage activities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, supervising, or developing engineering, field service, or technical personnel, including performance management and workforce planning.
  • Ability to communicate decisively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical documentation, evaluate complex situations, and develop practical solutions.
  • Proficiency in arithmetic operations and the application of mathematical concepts such as probability, statistics, and geometry, with the ability to apply these concepts to practical situations.
  • Proficiency in database management, project management tools, spreadsheets, word processing, email, graphics, technical diagrams, flowchart software, and ERP systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport required.
