Role Overview

Transportation Specialist III provides major logistics support to Gas and Steam Turbine Projects in the United States and other Americas. This position requires extensive and widespread logistics knowledge as well as hands-on operational experience. Must be well versed in Regulatory matters, ensure Compliance with U.S. Import and Export Regulations regarding proper classification, valuation, origin rules, free trade agreements, documentation and recordkeeping while attending to customer delivery deadlines. This position also provides guidance and consulting services to the rest of the organization.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Coordinate and support development of transportation, logistics, and customs requirements for all countries MPA or its affiliates are expected to perform transportation. Establish local provider networks capable of supporting planned and unplanned events
  • Communicate with steamship lines, freight forwarders, terminals, warehouses, etc. to verify and confirm cargo ETA and availability. Respond to inquiries on shipment status, track and trace cargo
  • Analyze and perform transportation for projects but not limited to: Foreign Trade Zone, rail, heavy haul truck, route analysis and logistics coordination.
  • Log all transportation requests in the SharePoint transportation log and archive within the transportation file. Gather and upload all documentation required depending on mode of transportation to the transportation log. i.e. commercial invoices, packing list, POD, Invoice, etc.
  • Receive/review pre-alerts and import documentation such as commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, declarations, certificates, purchase orders, etc. for completeness and accuracy. Ensure all documentation for imports, exports, and domestic shipments are filed in a timely manner, e.g. ISF filings
  • Prepare and verify commercial export documents with accuracy to ensure proper classification of material, valuation, and all other items required for ACE filings. Prepare Shipper Letter of Instructions to forwarders; Arrange inland transportation and provide pre-alert for export shipments to internal & external customers. Coordinate and monitor export shipments until they are delivered to designated locations in the 2020 incoterms 2020.
  • Compose correspondence and other communications related to accounts payable items. Request, receive, analyze, and dispute vendor billing invoices for accuracy. Review and approve freight bills of inbound and outbound shipments against contracted rates in CORA.
  • Investigate, audit, and support payment status of all freight invoices against contract rates and quoted services. Provide cost reporting to internal customers
  • Secure proper documentation as required by US Customs & Border Protection, Bureau of Industry & Security, other government agencies, or special programs prior to freight transfer
  • Ability to become subject matter experts related to processes, enterprise software, governmental requirements related to import, exports and foreign trade zone. Assess and utilize the best modes and carrier selection possible to reduce costs. Ultimately, determine best route, consolidation points, and warehouse locations. Evaluate current shipping procedures and identify methods that improve customer service through cost and lead time reductions; Examine current freight terms for both inbound and outbound shipping and develop competitive advantage solutions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, engineering drawings, engineering specifications for material, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, vendors, and public.
  • Communicate with foreign and domestic vendors, sales, global sourcing, accounting, etc. to resolve discrepancies
  • Serve as liaison between customers and MPA organization to facilitate complex logistical moves.
  • Manage claims that it results from damage, delays or any other unforeseen occurrence.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external customer bases as it relates to all facets of logistics.
  • Cooperate and correspond with internal clients and any other 3rd party in a professional manner with quality workmanship and materials.
  • Provide after-hours & weekend support as needed
  • Work directly with the Transportation Manager to achieve goals and objectives either requested by the department manager or upper management.
  • Ability to become subject matter experts related to processes, enterprise software, governmental requirements related to import, exports and foreign trade zone.
  • Meeting with the Transportation Manager as scheduled to discuss day-to-day operations, opportunities for process improvements and other concerns that might affect the overall operation     
  • Perform other such duties as may be required.

 

Requirement

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Supply Chain, Logistics from four-year College or university preferred; or at least ten (8) years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possess knowledge of specialty trade areas such as NAFTA, FCC, FTZ, TIB and 9801 HTS Program. Knowledge of international quotation and U.S. entry process, understanding INCO terms, proficient in import HTSUS classification and working knowledge of the Customs Regulations
