SUMMARY
As an integral member of the Design & Applications Engineering team, the Verification and Validation Engineer operates as a systems engineer specializing in verifying and validating the Gas Turbine Powertrain system. This role involves close collaboration with the team across all stages of requirements definition, management, verification planning, and implementation for after-market Gas Turbine upgrades.
The Verification and Validation Engineer is responsible for ensuring the integrity of upgrade verification work products throughout the project lifecycle, positioning upgrades for seamless commissioning and commercial dispatch operation. The engineer is responsible to establish validation standards, develop and execute validation protocols, report on findings, and oversee resolution of failures or deviations.
This role represents a recent addition to our team, entrusting the successful candidate with the development of standard work products and processes tailored to the role's requirements. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and their practical application, granting the engineer autonomy to execute tasks proficiently and with a degree of technical authority. As the engineer progresses, they will undertake increasingly complex technical assignments under the guidance of senior engineers or management, necessitating self-motivation, problem-solving acumen, and adept multitasking capabilities.
Support the evaluation and enhancement of gas turbine systems with an increasing scope of responsibility. The Verification and Validation Engineer III will perform routine work assignments with limited supervision and will actively work to increase product knowledge and skills.
- ISO 9001 Compliance: Support ISO 9001 audits and compliance efforts, complying with 002851-DD Design & Development standard operating procedure where applicable, while enhancing documentation and configuration control methods as needed.
- Verification & Validation Lead: For design & development projects, coordinate planning, specification, collection, and fulfillment of verification requirements and data. Lead integrated Gas Turbine test and analysis activities, from planning to reporting.
- Verification and Validation Program Plan Development: Develop program plans for design & development projects, outlining systematic approaches for validating and verifying design requirements. Define approach, resources, timing, and responsibilities.
- Inspection & Test Plan Development: Develop comprehensive Inspection & Test plans outlining procedures for site inspection and testing during Installation and commissioning. Specify inspection items, reference test procedures, acceptance criteria, and verification requirements. Collaborate with the cross functional design teams to develop integrated test plans.
- On-site Commissioning Support: Provide on-site support for commissioning activities, interfacing between various departments and resolving technical issues.
- Gas Turbine Testing & Analysis: Lead integrated Gas Turbine test and analysis activities, from planning to reporting.
- Post-Upgrade Follow Through: Oversee the resolution of failure and deviates identified through lessons learned and root cause analysis.
- Product and Service Enhancement: Make suggestions for product and service improvements to enhance customer satisfaction with Mitsubishi products and services.
- Communication: Utilize Outstanding communication and writing skills. Prepare work instructions for field inspection or service-related work including recommendations for improving the way work is currently being performed.
- Ensure products meet or exceed Mitsubishi Power and customer requirements.
- Support the development and training of other Engineers on the Design & Applications Team with technical project support and guidance.
- Perform other such duties as may be required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Education

- Education and/or Experience: MS [preferred] or BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Nuclear Engineering from an accredited college or university; and course work in the major field being associated with turbomachinery. A minimum of 6 years of experience in an engineering design or service-related experience is required (some work credit may be given for MS or PhD degrees based on the relevancy of course and related project experience). An ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements analysis, system integration, system testing and validation methodologies, and lifecycle management. Also, knowledge of gas turbine engineering including overall turbine configuration, gas turbine configuration, and properties of materials commonly used in turbines, and the ISO 9001 standard.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as industry reports and technical journals. Ability to write technical reports and correspondence including customer reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to customers, clients, vendors, and other employees of the organization.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform necessary calculations to satisfy job requirements.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to make judgment decisions based on specifications or technical requirements.
- Computer Skills: Advanced personal computer skills including graphics (CREO, AutoCAD), MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access), etc. Experience with requirements management software such as Code beamer or DOORS is the plus.
