Summary
As a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Power Americas (MPWA) and a Group Company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), MHI Hydrogen Infrastructure is boldly accelerating the energy transition and moving the world towards a brighter, sustainable and decarbonized world. We are already building large-scale hydrogen-fueled power plants and are rapidly expanding our portfolio to provide hydrogen production plants, as well as hydrogen storage and infrastructure solutions. In short, we are building a value chain for hydrogen, from production to use, through the integration of existing energy infrastructure with advanced hydrogen related technology.
We are leading the industry in shaping the hydrogen ecosystem, from our hydrogen-capable gas turbines to our investments in the world’s first and largest integrated green hydrogen production and storage hub.
We are rapidly expanding our Hydrogen Infrastructure development team to support new hydrogen infrastructure development activities throughout the Americas. We are currently seeking a Director, Market Development & Origination. This person should be curious and qualified in the facets of market/project development and offtake origination for large-scale energy projects.
This position will report directly to the VP, Head of Market Development & Origination.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Identify and negotiate off-take opportunities for new and existing projects in various development stages. Markets include but not limited to: ammonia, power, other e-fuels.
- Identify new project development opportunities and strategic partnerships.
- Responsible for critical early-stage development tasks to ensure on time delivery and accuracy of required work products.
- Manage a portfolio of projects within time, appropriate scope, and budget parameters.
- Create and manage strategic partnerships to support project success.
- Create and maintain project updates and progress reports; identify risks and possible solutions for discussion with team members.
- Identify value-added and profitability influencers through development, regulatory and permitting analysis to improve project bankability.
- Distilling relevant insights from state and federal energy policies and other public industry sources that lead to potential business opportunities.

Successful candidates will also demonstrate evidence of working independently in an unstructured environment.
- Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (BS) in business, engineering, economics, environmental studies, public policy, or relevant field. Graduate degree is a plus, but not required from four-year accredited college or university; and minimum ten (10) years related experience and/or training, is preferred and may include finance, project management, energy management, energy and environmental policy or law, economic development, technical sales, construction management, or engineering. Experience with renewable energy (renewable fuels preferred) offtake negotiation is required.
- Flexibility and willingness to learn and “pitch in” at all levels; thorough understanding of the project development lifecycle, including key stage gates and funding impact; experience in negotiating key project contracts – partnership agreements, land acquisition, off-take and feedstock agreements; familiarity with process technologies for hydrogen production and production of hydrogen derivatives; knowledge of export market for hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives; interest and ability to work in a small team environment; ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks; define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; interdisciplinary understanding of business development and energy issues (technology, power markets, economics, and policy); ability to quickly understand the basics of a variety of subjects relating to solar energy and storage; including resource studies, environmental studies, transmission issues, public relations, public policy, sales, and engineering.
- Language Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office, with financial modeling experience a plus.
