SCOPE:

The Sr. Project Manager - CDU is responsible for leading the development and commercialization of CDU (Coolant Distribution Unit) solutions for the North American data center market. The role focuses on delivering product solutions in collaboration with external partners, while maintaining ownership of product requirements, system integration, and overall product realization. This position leads the definition and alignment of product specifications based on customer needs and market requirements, and coordinates development activities executed across internal teams and external partners. The role ensures that delivered solutions meet technical, commercial, and compliance expectations, regardless of the specific execution model applied (e.g., partner-based development, co-development, or other collaboration frameworks). Serving as the central integration leader, the Sr. Project Manager drives alignment across stakeholders and manages the process from through concept validation and productization, ensuring that CDU solutions are scalable, competitive, and aligned with the company’s data center infrastructure strategy. This role is a key contributor to DCEM’s North American business, which involves building relationships with data center operators and infrastructure stakeholders and delivering modular infrastructure solutions through strategic partnerships. This position collaborates with global stakeholders across Japan and the U.S. to align priorities, enable effective execution, and support MHIA’s long-term business objectives.

 

The ideal candidate will have at least nine (9) years of experience in product development, project management, or engineering coordination for industrial equipment, cooling systems, or packaged/skid systems.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Product Specification & Requirement Ownership

  • Defining and own CDU product requirements and specifications based on customer needs, system requirements, and business objectives.
  • Translate high-level market inputs and customer use cases into clear and structured specifications for development.
  • Establish scope boundaries, performance requirements, interface definitions, and compliance criteria.

Partner & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Coordinate development activities involving external partners and internal engineering teams.
  • Act as the primary interface for aligning expectations, deliverables, roles, and responsibilities across all stakeholders.
  • Evaluate technical proposals, design approaches, and development outputs to ensure alignment with product requirements.

System Integration & Interface Management

  • Define and manage system-level architecture and interfaces across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines.
  • Ensure CDU solutions are compatible with broader data center infrastructure systems.
  • Identify and resolve integration gaps between system requirements and available solutions.

Development Oversight & Product Realization

  • Manage the development of the lifecycle from concept through design alignment, validation, and readiness for deployment.
  • Ensure development outputs meet requirements for performance, manufacturability, quality, and compliance.
  • Coordinate validation activities such as testing, PoC, and pilot deployments, incorporating feedback into final product definition.

Commercial & Strategy Alignment

  • Align development direction with business strategy, including cost, scalability, and competitive positioning.
  • Support early-stage opportunity development through technical feasibility assessment and configuration definition.
  • Contributes to building a scalable product portfolio through effective use of internal and external capabilities.

Risk & Issue Management

  • Identify, track, and manage risks related to technical feasibility, partner capability, schedule, and quality.
  • Lead structured issue resolution processes across teams and stakeholders.
  • Drive timely escalation and decision-making to maintain development progress.

Process Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish repeatable processes for specification management, partner coordination, and interface control.
  • Capture lessons learned and apply them to improve future development efficiency and scalability.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field
  • Experience: Minimum of nine (9) years of experience in product development, project management, or engineering coordination for industrial equipment, cooling systems, or packaged/skid systems.
  • Experience coordinating development activities involving external partners, suppliers, or cross-functional teams, including the ability to manage and align multiple stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Experience working in the data center market for five (5) years in cooling system.
  • Proven ability to define product requirements and translate them into development specifications.
  • Strong understanding of system-level integration across mechanical, electrical, and controls domains.
  • Ability to review and assess technical documents such as drawings, specifications, and test results.
  • Strong project/program management skills including planning, risk management, stakeholder alignment, and balanced decision-making considering technical feasibility, cost, schedule, and business impact.
  • Ability to work effectively with global teams, including coordination with Japanese stakeholders, in evolving and sometimes ambiguous development environments.
  • Professional communication skills required, including the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders in a business environment.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

o Experience with liquid cooling systems, CDU, or thermal management equipment.

o Experience working with OEM partners, integrators, or in collaborative development environments.

o Experience in data center infrastructure or mission-critical facility projects.

o Familiarity with U.S. industry standards such as UL, CSA, NEC, and ASME.

o Experience with prototype development, validation testing, and pilot deployments.

o Understanding of modular or skid-based system solutions.

o Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) tools and processes.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Travel: 25-30%
  • Standard Monday through Friday work week. Additional hours as required.
  • Includes collaboration with partners and occasional site or factory visits.
