SCOPE:
The Sr. Project Manager, Power Systems, is responsible for managing customer-facing power systems projects in North America, including medium-voltage (MV), low-voltage (LV), and DC power systems, from order intake through engineering, procurement, manufacturing, delivery, installation, commissioning, and final handover. This role serves as the primary project interface among customers, data center operators, consultants, EPC contractors, electrical contractors, and internal teams. The Sr. Project Manager ensures effective coordination of electrical engineering, suppliers, and stakeholders to deliver customer-specific power solutions aligned with cost, schedule, quality, and compliance requirements. The Sr. Project Manager manages project scope, schedule, budget, risks, change orders, documentation, stakeholder communication, and overall execution performance to ensure safe, compliant, timely, and profitable project delivery. This role also coordinates with responsible stakeholders to support permitting, inspections, AHJ approval/acceptance, regulatory compliance, electrical safety standards (NEC/NFPA), UL/ETL/CSA/NRTL certification, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and final turnover for power delivery systems in mission-critical environments such as data centers. This position collaborates with global stakeholders across Japan and the U.S. to align priorities, enable effective execution, and support MHIA’s long-term business objectives.
The ideal candidate will have at least nine (9) years of project management experience with at least six 6 years in electrical/power systems or power distribution projects in the data center market.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Management & Stakeholder Interface
- Manage end-to-end execution of power delivery projects (MV/LV/DC systems) in North America, from order intake through final handover.
- Serve as the primary project interface with customers, data center operators, EPC contractors, electrical contractors, consultants, and internal teams.
- Lead regular project meetings, report status, escalate risks/issues, and drive timely decisions.
- Define and manage project scope, deliverables, technical interfaces, and responsibility boundaries among stakeholders.
- Ensure customer satisfaction, adherence to schedule and budget, and successful transition to service/aftermarket teams.
- Maintain project governance, including execution plans, schedules, risk registers, issue logs, and communication plans.
Engineering, Manufacturing & Supplier Coordination
- Coordinate electrical engineering deliverables including single-line diagrams, protection schemes, control logic, panel layouts, cable schedules, and technical submittals.
- Manage submission, review, comment resolution, approval, and resubmission processes with customers and consultants.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, manufacturing, quality, logistics, and site teams.
- Track equipment production schedules, factory milestones, FAT readiness, and delivery commitments.
- Coordinate integration of packaged solutions such as switchgear, transformers, UPS, DC power systems, and generator interfacing.
- Support modularization concepts for power infrastructure (skids, containerized solutions, prefabricated systems).
Logistics & Site Execution Coordination
- Coordinate delivery logistics, including transportation planning, site access, unloading, and storage.
- Ensure site readiness, including electrical interface points, cable routing, grounding, and utility connections.
- Coordinate installation readiness, construction sequencing, and interface with other trades (mechanical, controls, civil).
- Support commissioning preparation, including system energization planning and operational verification.
Risk Management, Compliance & Site Safety
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to technical scope, schedule, cost, and site execution.
- Coordinate permitting and inspections (electrical/building/fire) with local authorities and stakeholders.
- Drive compliance with NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 855/110 (as applicable), and other relevant standards.
- Coordinate AHJ inspections, approvals, and NRTL certification (UL/ETL/CSA).
- Ensure adherence to site safety requirements, including OSHA, LOTO, energized work permits, and electrical safety practices.
- Coordinate insurance and compliance requirements (e.g., FM Global where applicable).
Commissioning & Handover
- Coordinate FAT and SAT activities, including test procedures, witness points, and documentation.
- Support commissioning activities including system energization, synchronization, and performance verification.
- Ensure punch list closure, documentation completeness, and readiness for final turnover.
- Deliver complete project documentation including drawings, test records, certifications, and O&M manuals.
- This list of responsibilities is not all-inclusive, and an employee may be required to perform other relevant duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related technical field
- Experience: Minimum of nine (9) years of project management experience with at least six 6 years in electrical/power systems or power distribution projects in the data center market.
- Experience managing customer-facing projects from order intake through engineering, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and handover
- Strong understanding of MV/LV power systems, DC systems, switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS, and distribution systems in the data center.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings (single-line diagrams, schematics), specifications, and contracts
- Demonstrated ability to manage scope, schedule, budget, risks, and stakeholder communication
- Experience coordinating permitting, inspections, AHJ approvals, and compliance processes
- Knowledge of NEC (NFPA 70) and electrical safety standards
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
o Experience with data center or mission-critical infrastructure projects
o Experience with modular/prefabricated power systems (skids, packaged substations, containerized solutions)
o Familiarity with NRTL certification processes (UL, ETL, CSA) and field evaluation
o Experience working with hyperscalers, colocation providers, EPC contractors, and engineering consultants
o Experience with grid interconnection, utility coordination, or backup/bridge power systems
o Familiarity with energy systems, including gas engine generators, battery systems, or hybrid power solutions
o Experience with project management tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, Procore, SAP, Salesforce, etc.)
o PMP certification, OSHA certification, or similar qualifications
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Travel: 40% (as required by project/customer needs)
- Standard Monday through Friday work week. Weekend/late-night work, if applicable.
- Physical requirements: Regularly required to sit for long periods, stand, walk, talk, and/or hear; frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
