Continuous Improvement Engineer

Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. in Savannah, Georgia is looking for a Continuous Improvement Engineer.
SUMMARY
The Continuous Improvement Engineer is an intermediate-level engineering position that requires knowledge of engineering principles and experience in the application of principles. In this role, the engineer will demonstrate the capability to perform normal work assignments without requiring detailed instruction and will be given some degree of technical authority in these work assignments. The engineer will also be given technical assignments of increasing technical difficulty working under the supervision of more senior engineers or management to implement process improvements using effective planning practices through applications of project management, lean manufacturing, and standard industrial engineering tools. This would include coordination of the respective production processes to achieve on-time project completion based on contractual requirements and operational lead times.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Successfully managing complex improvement projects throughout lifecycles - origination, definition, planning/analyzing, implementation and maintain
- Champion Kaizen improvement events targeted towards increasing operational performance consistent with the business plan. Lead both direct and indirect co-workers as necessary to meet all business goals
- Lead and facilitate 6S activities and ensure long-term sustainability
- Create long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines for applicable improvement projects

- Effectively manage and prioritize work across multiple projects and cooperatively deploy LEAN & Continuous Improvement methods into the organization

- Develop recommended projects, identify opportunities of improvement and document accordingly
- Develop and maintain tools such as process maps for project and process improvement efforts

- Develop, maintain, and monitor relationship and operational performance and metrics such as productivity

- Identify methods to improve the capture of key metrics and supporting reporting of metrics in Safety, Quality, Delivery & Cost

- Lead and coach peers and work teams in efforts that positively impact department KPIs

- Mentor work teams to teach and expand the basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement philosophy. This includes the auditing, training, and administering of programs such as IDEAS, 6S, TPM, MST, Standard Work, and Work Combination Sheets.
- Support of the visual factory inclusive of communications tools, monitoring of product flow, ongoing review of progress to set targets.
- Communicate with various levels of the entire organization regarding strategy, plans, events, and results of improvement initiatives and production schedules.
- Perform other such duties as may be required.

Education and/or Experience: Four-year degree in a technical or engineering discipline and three years of experience with the ability to demonstrate the successful usage of the appropriate level of improvement tools. In Lieu of a four-year degree an associate degree and 7 years’ experience is acceptable. Ideal candidate to have formal training in Lean and/or Six Sigma quality systems and would have relevant experience in implementation.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: Basic personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and advanced database knowledge of MPR, ERP and BOM processes.
