Role Overview
Mitsubishi Power in Savannah, GA is hiring a Director of Engineering reporting to the Vice President of Manufacturing. The Director of Engineering will have a broad understanding of Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine, and Electric Generator designs, equipment manufacture, and the equipment servicing industry. Development, management, and administration of Savannah Machinery Work’s (SMW) entire engineering program is key to ensuring that procedures and policies of the organization are coordinated throughout the entire engineering organization with a philosophy of continuous improvement and total customer satisfaction. The expertise to develop strong customer relations as well as factory relations is imperative for establishing a successful engineering program from customer order engineering and technical contract negotiations through manufacturing support; design related cost-down activities, and manufacturing process improvements.
Key Responsibilities

- Lead design‑related cost‑down initiatives, manufacturing process improvements, and cost‑reduction efforts in coordination with MHI and/or MPSA Engineering teams.
- Drive continuous improvement and cost reduction using structured, data‑driven methodologies such as Pareto analysis, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma.
- Develop, standardize, and continuously improve manufacturing methods and layouts to maximize productivity, workflow efficiency, space utilization, and compliance with ISO 9001 requirements.
- Establish and maintain engineering specifications, standards, and control plans for raw materials, processes, and finished products to ensure quality and consistency.
- Lead and develop the Engineering organization supporting Gas, Steam, and Generator product lines, providing technical solutions to Manufacturing and customers.
- Coordinate engineering design reviews, project management practices, and common procedures across Engineering functions.
- Maintain and control engineering documentation, including designs, fleet modifications, and technical records; communicate updates to MHI Engineering as required.
- Support Manufacturing with technical documentation, work instructions, and process guidance.
- Partner with cross‑functional teams to ensure products meet customer specifications, including support for customer visits, reporting, and technical documentation.
- Support ongoing review and enhancement of engineering programs, procedures, and systems to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and strengthen organizational performance.
- Travel overnight, domestically and/or internationally, as required.
- Perform other duties as needed to support business and operational objectives.
Requirements
- Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (BS) in engineering from four-year College or University.
- 10 years of experience in the turbine design, manufacturing and service engineering sector preferred.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis and must not require employer immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documentation, including drawings, schematics, logic diagrams, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and present effectively to employees and customers. Japanese language skills are desirable.
- Solid analytical and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to work with limited standardization, interpret diverse instructions, and address practical operational challenges.
- Working knowledge of mathematical and statistical concepts, including percentages, ratios, probability, and basic statistical inference, applied to real‑world situations.
- Proficiency with business and technical software tools, including databases, project management systems, spreadsheets, word processing, email, graphics, technical diagrams, and flowcharting tools.
