Summary
Mitsubishi Power in Savannah, GA is seeking a Dynamic Balancing Technician I to execute defined work assignments in support of low-speed and high-speed dynamic balancing operations for gas turbine, steam turbine, and generator rotors using established procedures and appropriate supervision. This role involves equipment setup, basic operation, measurement, documentation, and rotor handling activities while developing proficiency in balancing fundamentals and the safe operation of high-energy rotating equipment in accordance with Mitsubishi Power safety, quality, environmental, conduct, and productivity standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all work assignments in accordance with Mitsubishi Power safety, quality, environmental, conduct, uniform, appearance, and IP policies, practices, and procedures.
- Support setup and operation of low-speed and high-speed dynamic balancing machines following approved work instructions.
- Assist with balance machine setup, including pedestal installation, instrumentation installation, basic calibration verification, and trial weight installation under guidance.
- Follow engineering drawings, balance specifications, work instructions, and lift plans to support balancing and rotor handling activities.
- Operate approved balancing instrumentation and software to collect required vibration and phase data.
- Safely perform rotor loading, unloading, and positioning using overhead cranes, rigging systems, and handling fixtures, following approved lift plans.
- Use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges, to take and record measurements per instructions.
- Support balance correction activities such as installing or removing trial or correction weights under supervision.
- Prepare components for balancing by cleaning, inspecting, or polishing surfaces as required.
- Accurately document work completion, measurements, and balance results in electronic tracking and quality systems.
- Escalate non-routine conditions or deviations to Engineering, Quality, or Supervision.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities as assigned.
- Maintain good housekeeping and tool control within the work area and demonstrate high standards of honesty, integrity, and organization.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical certificate or Associate degree preferred.
- One to two years of experience in mechanical assembly, rotating equipment, or industrial manufacturing preferred.
- Basic understanding of unbalance concepts and vibration fundamentals.
- Familiarity with SAE and Metric measurement systems and tooling.
- Ability to follow detailed work instructions, technical instructions, drawings, safety requirements, and lift plans.
- Mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and ability to learn and retain balancing procedures and safety requirements.
- Ability to communicate clearly with team members.
- Basic arithmetic skills and ability to record SAE and Metric measurements accurately.
- Ability to stand regularly; talk or hear frequently; and occasionally walk, sit, and use hands and arms.
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Correctable vision to a minimum of 20/30.
- Ability to work around moving mechanical parts in a moderate-noise manufacturing environment where hearing protection may be recommended and/or required in some areas.
