Role Overview
Mitsubishi Power is hiring an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Senior Manager for its Savannah Machinery Works facility. This leadership role provides leadership, oversight and strategic direction and oversees all EHS programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement. The Senior Manager will develop and implement an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), support incident investigations, and drive strategic initiatives aligned with company standards. Additionally, the role is responsible for regulatory and corporate reporting in health, safety, and security, and contributes to creating an incident- and injury-free workplace across North America Manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
- Lead all aspects of occupational health and safety, including OSHA compliance, industrial hygiene, risk assessments, emergency response, and training.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, and other agencies).
- Manage regulatory permits, correspondence, and reporting; serve as the primary contact for regulatory bodies.
- Implement and maintain a compliance calendar using Dakota software.
- Develop and improve EHS strategies, policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Oversee and sustain the Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) program; collaborate with other manufacturing sites.
- Support long-term EHS planning and proactive initiatives for emerging issues.
- Act as the technical expert on safety, hygiene, and environmental health.
- Lead incident investigations and corrective/preventive actions.
- Monitor EHS metrics, analyze trends, and implement improvement strategies.
- Stay current on industry trends and regulatory changes through professional development.
- Standardize EHS tools, resources, and communication materials.
- Foster a collaborative and safety-focused team culture.
- Respond to government inquiries and support accident investigations.
- Analyze accident and workers' compensation data; recommend cost control and corrective actions.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold high ethical standards.
Requirements
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree preferred, or 8+ years of relevant EHS experience; equivalent combinations of education and experience accepted.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and regulations; write reports and procedures; present information clearly to various audiences.
- Math & Analytical Skills: Proficient in applying statistical and geometric concepts to practical situations; capable of analyzing data and drawing valid conclusions.
- Problem-Solving: Skilled in interpreting technical instructions and solving complex problems involving multiple variables.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiar with database, risk management, project management, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
- Ability to travel up to 25%, including potential international travel
Preferred Qualifications
- Field experience at project sites, manufacturing experience or power industry experience with hands-on EHS leadership.
- ASP, CSP, GSP, COSS HOP Certifications a plus
- Deep technical knowledge of EHS regulations and standards, including OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and Process Safety Management.
- Proficient in electrical safety protocols (e.g., high voltage, arc flash, lockout/tagout).
- Skilled in hazard assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analysis.
- Experience implementing Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) and Human Performance programs.
- Proven success in developing and deploying comprehensive EHS plans across complex, multi-site operations.
- Familiarity with ISO 45001 standards.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data analysis capabilities.
- Effective collaborator with strong communication and facilitation skills.
- Customer-focused mindset with the ability to translate needs into actionable solutions.
