Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. in Pooler, GA is looking for a Gas Turbine Design Engineer II.


Summary

The Gas Turbine Design Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical design of gas turbine engine components and auxiliary system interconnections to the engine. The design work encompasses the functional design of components and structural, thermal, aerodynamic, and combustion analyses of components and assemblies to meet operational requirements.

 

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of Design Engineering experience, and strong Analysis skills.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Develop 3-dimensional computer models and drawings of gas turbine parts and subassemblies using Pro/Engineer CAD software ensuring dimensional tolerancing requirements are accurately defined following ASME Y145.5.
  • Perform analysis of gas turbine components and subassemblies (when required) using ANSYS finite element analysis software, checking calculation results using hand calculations or alternative methods.
  • Collect part dimensional and material information using CMM systems, material scanners, hand tools (calipers, micrometers, pin gages, etc.), and other non-destructive examination methods.
  • Provide technical support to Field Service personnel with judgement on interpretation of design criteria, evaluation and resolution of field issues and preparation of work instructions.
  • Make suggestions for product and service improvements that will increase customer satisfaction with Mitsubishi products and services.
  • Provide technical support for sourcing, manufacturing, installing, servicing, and repairing turbine components, consumable hardware, and subassemblies. Such work includes evaluation of material substitutions, alternative methods to manufacture, install and service, and other requests to reduce lead time and cost.
  • Support ISO 9001 audits and compliance efforts, and where possible enhance the documentation and configuration control methods in use by Gas Turbine Engineering Services.
  • Perform other such duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Education

 

  • Education and/or Experience: Preferred Masters (M.S.) or Bachelor’s (B.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university; or a minimum of 12 years directly related work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement. A minimum of 3 years engineering design experience is required (some work credit may be given for M.S. or PhD degrees based on relevancy of course and related project experience).
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as industry reports and technical journals. Ability to write technical reports and correspondence including customer reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on one, small group, and large group situations to customers, clients, vendors, and other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform necessary calculations to satisfy job requirements.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to make judgment decisions based on specification or technical requirements.
  • Computer Skills: Advanced personal computer skills including graphics (Pro/Engineer, AutoCAD), Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS), Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access)
