SUMMARY
The Lead Continuous Improvement Engineer is an advanced-level engineering position that requires knowledge of engineering principles and demonstrated experience in continuous improvement practices through applications of Lean Manufacturing and standard Industrial Engineering tools. With a focus on continuous improvement and data solutions, this role is responsible for leading efforts to design innovative solutions, optimize processes, and leverage data effectively to drive improvements across the organization. This role is a leadership role responsible for training and coaching team members and leading a continuous improvement culture in the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- All essential duties & responsibilities of Continuous Improvement Engineer I & II as well as those listed below
- Champion and provide follow-up to continuous improvement events targeted towards increasing operational performance consistent with the business plan. Lead and coach both direct and indirect co-workers as necessary to meet all business requirements
- Mentor teams to teach and expand the basic knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement philosophy. This includes the auditing, training, and administering of programs such as ideas, 6S, TPM, MST, Standard Work, and Work Combination Sheets
- Lead training on new processes, Quality, LEAN and assist with developing standard operating procedures
- Lead and facilitate advanced 6S activities and ensure long-term sustainability
- Understand operational performance metrics such as productivity and lead improvement activities based on results
- Perform financial, statistical analysis and ROI analysis as necessary
- Apply advanced skills with, and knowledge of, modern business principles to common objectives to achieve practical and cost-effective solutions
- Apply advanced knowledge of statistical tools and techniques to analyze business operations, processes, and output to determine product/process reliability, repeatability, and quality
- Communicate with various levels of the entire organization regarding strategy, plans, events, and results of improvement initiatives and project schedules
- Lead process improvement initiatives as directed acting as facilitator and project manager, implementing clear project plans and timelines to ensure business needs are met and project is executed on time and on budget
- Perform other such duties as may be required

- Education and/or Experience: Four-year degree in a technical or engineering discipline and/or equivalent experience. Five plus years of experience with the ability to demonstrate the successful usage of the appropriate level of improvement tools. Must demonstrate the ability to successfully lead and perform lead engineer functions. Ideal candidate to have formal training and certification in Lean and/or Six Sigma quality systems and relevant experience in implementation.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Computer Skills: Basic personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and advanced database knowledge of MRP, ERP and BOM processes.
