QUALITY INSPECTOR

 

 

 

 

 

Summary

Serves as primary Quality Control point of contact for MCO-I.  Handle and inspect products produced at MCO-I and/or received from and possibly at suppliers to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products by performing the following duties:

 

  • Roles and Responsibilities
    • Foster an environment of teamwork, compliance and continual improvement.
    • Adhere to the Company's objectives, i.e. Safety, Quality, Environmental and Information Security Ensure compliance with departments’ standard procedures.
    • Apply the Quality Tenets and referred practices in all aspects of production.
    • Conduct all shop inspection in support of the business processes and procedures, including receiving inspection, dimensional inspection, First Article, in-process and final inspections, and possible supplier inspection at their facilities.
    • Approves incoming materials by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.
    • Interprets engineering drawings, P&ID's, customer specifications, ITP's, Quality Plans or other related specifications and confers with management and engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
    • Open NCR's for defect tracking - ensure complete information is applied, containment of all affected parts and physical marking have been applied to parts and that parts remain marked until disposition applied and any required remedial action is applied
    • Participate in Material Review Board activities for non-conformance disposition and processing.
    • Improve and sustain Gage Calibration Program for the facility.
    • Broad knowledge on Inspection techniques, including but not limited to, Non Destructive Exams (PT, UT, MT, RT & others).
  • Apply Inspection techniques, usage of measurement monitoring gages & tools and QMS protocols.
    • Test products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical/fabrication and electrical characteristics.
    • Record test data, applying statistical techniques as necessary.
    • Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
    • Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum within limits of equipment capabilities.
  • Conduct in-house and supplier shop inspections, included but not limited to, in-process inspection, hydro test, P&ID walk down, tagging inspections, dimensional inspection of customer connections and Final Inspection of Compressor packages with the client’s inspectors. Develops agreed package punch lists and works with Production to agree rework requirements, documenting using the NCR system, and closing punch list prior to customer inspections. Works with QA to compile documentation - MTR traceability, shop records and customer certification requirements per agreed ITPs.
    • Complete and produce Quality documentation (Material Data Book) and tagging that illustrates compliance and traceability requirements as required.
  • Participate in shop cross-functional meetings including daily/weekly shop planning, safety, communications or other meetings and project meetings as required.
  • Participate and communicate with manufacturing, procurement, engineering, sales plus any other necessary department on a regular and as needed basis to ensure schedule of quality activities supports timing for their respective functions. 
    • Receive training, demonstrate proficiency and become certified in NDE testing as required.
    • Act as liaison and host customer witness inspectors in assigned area as required

  • Job Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: 10-15 years in manufacturing inspection preferred.
  • English speaking, reading, and writing skills and have the ability to clearly communicate in English; have the ability to understand and follow both verbal and written instruction.
  • Reasoning ability: Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Strong work ethic (willingness to work hard and long hours, when needed)R
  • Mathematics Skills – ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, whole numbers, fractions and decimals
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule from.
  • Must be able to read, interpret, and work from engineering prints, drawings, sketches, inspection test plans, customer specifications and technical communications.
  • Must be capable of efficiently performing in process and final inspections on machined components with high accuracy.
  • Ability to correctly use and interpret basic measuring tools including all gauging, micrometer, caliper scale (linear), gauge blocks, thread gauges, and comparative standards.
  • Computer skills – general knowledge of word processing software, excel, email and manufacturing schedules.

 

  • Preferred Skills
  • Advanced math skills (Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry)
  • GD&T Fundamentals / Metrology, Gage Design & Calibration Experience, CMM and Faro Arm experienced/trained must have dimensional inspection skills to tight tolerance limits.
  • Actively follow, practice and coach the MCO-I Team Principles, MCO-I Campus Work Rules, Safety Tents and Quality Tenets with fellow associates, customers and visitors
  • Ability to work in teams and be willing to learn and play a variety of team roles from constructive participant, to process or internal auditor, or even team leader as required
