Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
Responsible for the design of Blast Furnace Plant and Mechanical equipment and the development of new and existing Blast Furnace equipment, the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer carry out concept design, design reviews and detail engineering of specific items of Blast Furnace equipment.
You will also be responsible for the Engineering of a specific portion of a project. Project responsibilities; productivity, technical output, resource control, progress, product standardisation, health and safety and compliance.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY / TASKS:
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you shall:
- Produce, monitor and/or check that technically compliant and cost-effective design documentation; drawings, specifications, schedules, calculations, manuals etc. meet project requirements and company operating procedures / statutory obligations.
- Work with the lead engineer as the technical focus for a specific portion of a project ensuring a successful and commercially viable contract execution. This would include monitoring and reporting budgets, progress and change management.
- Comply with the company operating procedures and statutory obligations. Participate in project Design & Safety Reviews, Risk Assessments etc.
- Work with other engineers to develop specific products through concept design (mechanical), calculations, design reviews, detail engineering and onto a saleable product.
- When required ensure that equipment is manufactured, tested, installed and commissioned in accordance with the design / operational requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and cultivate relationships with Clients, Suppliers, Sub Contractors to ensure successful execution of the project, future business.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Equipment design skills, able to work alone or in groups to produce innovative, robust designs, built with both manufacture and operation in mind and suited to the harsh environment they will operate in.
- Design calculation ability, usually with ‘MathCAD’ or Microsoft Excel required.
- Advanced 3D CAD skills (Preferably Autodesk Inventor Professional, with iLogic).
- Advanced Finite Element Analysis skills (Preferably Ansys).
- Working knowledge of environmental, health & safety and technical regulations.
EDUCATIONAL / PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS (IF ANY):
Educated to degree level in mechanical engineering discipline.
